We'll see how this goes

Greetings, reader. This is my first blogpost. I figured I'd make it an introduction. I started this after a lovely lunch with the Literacy Volunteers training group at Yard House in Burlington. The ladies insisted that I start a blog when I told them I'd stay in touch regarding my career.

I have told numerous people I'd stay in touch about medical school and the military, and initially, I thought it would just be individual emails on my end, but I do think a blog would be better. I'm able to write more and insert images where I'd like them to be. I have a few ideas for future posts in mind, and they won't necessarily be career related, but I hope they'll still be interesting to read. Since I've been getting back into art as well, maybe I'll post some artwork here in the future.

In regards to the title of the blog, deadboarder, it's from my time back during senior year of undergrad. I was skateboarding at Smith College when I met a student named Amrita, and we just hit it off when she started a conversation. We ended up skateboarding together the following weeks, and there was a time where I fell and was being rather dramatic and didn't want to get up, and she said "deadboarder" should be my handle on social media. Not sure how it instantly came to her head, but it was a stroke of genius. It always sounded pretty sick and I was unfortunately never good enough to publicly post videos of myself skateboarding, so I never could have used it. However, it always stuck, and this blog seemed like the opportunity to use such a username.

I'd like to continue to give a shoutout to the Literacy Volunteers group - notably Bill, Colleen, Marianne, Peggy, and Cheryl - for always arranging regular get-togethers long after the tutoring trainings ended. A group that bonds in such a short amount of time is rare. From what I've heard, the trainings have been online as of late, and while this has churned out more literacy tutors to get through the waiting list of eager tutees who want to learn English, I don't think such a close-knit group could be created online. Sometimes, things are better in-person, at the cost of convenience. Other things I could think of are books, concerts, and conversations.

Well, that's all for now. Stay tuned for a longer, more formal first post.
